What's New?

We Have a New Youth Minister!

I am delighted to announce that after more than a year of active searching, we have called a youth minister for St. Luke’s--Miguel Covarrubias.  Miguel is a graduate of Colorado Christian University with a BFA in Youth Ministries and a minor in Theatre and emphasis in Biblical Studies.  He has served churches in Colorado, Virginia and Billings, Montana, where he is currently living.  He is engaged to be married next year.  He will be moving to Jamestown Labor Day weekend and will start officially on September 7.

I would like to thank our dedicated Youth Minister Search Committee for their long hard work in this process.  Special thanks go to our chairperson, Karen Collins, for her exemplary leadership, positive attitude, and dedication.

I am especially pleased that we will be able to start our program year with this exciting addition to our staff and our youth program.  Please pray for Miguel as he deals with this transition and do what you can to make him feel welcome.

Start-Up Sunday is September 12

Join us for lots of fun on September 12.  Church School kids will register at 9:30 am.  During church we will have a blessing of the backpacks with a free gift for you to have in your backpack as you start school.  We will commission our church school students and teachers  and there will be a Ministry Fair and Hot Dog cookout after church for all.  Bring a friend and be sure to come!

Fr. Eric will not be in church Sunday, September 12.  Instead he will be running in the Erie Marathon on Presque Isle.   He is dedicating his run to the people of Haiti.  If you would like to sponsor him, you can make a donation to Episcopal Relief and Development (ER-D) with note for "Haiti Relief."  Send the checks to St. Luke's Church, 410 North Main Street, Jamestown, NY 14701.  Or, you may also make the checks out to St. Luke's and he will forward them all together after the marathon.

Are you one of the 30? title  Sign up now for "Discovering the Bible: A New Generation" which starts October 5 and runs Tuesday nights throughout the year.  Fr. Eric will be leading this course and you can hear his introduction to the course as a podcast, or  read the article in the "Adult Formation" section.  We are looking for a class of thirty.  Sign up by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
