A Welcoming Church in the Heart of Jamestown

Education

Christian formation/education is an ongoing process, just as one's faith journey is never ending.  "Formation" goes beyond class studies to include mentoring, retreats, inter-generational activities and special events.  St. Luke's offers opportunities to learn and grow, from nursery age through adulthood.

Below are links to different areas of formation that are offered here at St. Luke's.

  • Church School   ( 1 Article )

Our Church School comprises Preschool - Grade 5 and uses the Workshop Rotation Informationwhich allows classes to explore a Bible verse for about a month at a time, with the kids moving weekly to workshops in music, art, drama, videos, games or food.  SInce St. Luke's began using the Workshop Rotations in 2003, we've noticed that the kids learn and remember the stories much better after experiencing them in several ways.  Teachers also enjoy the model and it's easy to "jump in" to lead a short, four-week session in an area you enjoy.

  • Adult Formation   ( 12 Articles )

As stated in the Christian Formation statement above...formation is a live-long journey.  We are continuously  growing in faith and as human beings.  St. Luke's offers several opportunities through which one might grow.  These opportunities include:

    • Adult Forum - which meets on Sunday morning at 9:00.  Each week we tackle an important topic and often host outside speakers.
    • Bible Studies - One for men on Wednesdays and one for Women on Thursdays.  (room for more!)
    • Journey of Faith for those seeking confirmation and/or better understanding of the Episcopal Church.
    • Lenten Series, which includes children's activities, five Wednesday evenings in Lent.
    • Other special events as announced, such as book studies, special Bible studies, etc.
    • Check out our parish prayer guide:  "Lord, Teach us to Pray" based on a series of forums.
