As the Adult Forum and other Sunday morning education offerings go on summer hiatus, St. Luke’s would like to offer an opportunity to continue some discussion and learning during the 9:00 a.m. time slot. Beginning on Sunday, June 20 St. Luke’s will be offering
“Pow-Wow with the Preacher” – giving folks the opportunity to meet with whomever is scheduled to preach that day and to discuss the reading assigned for the day. So, on any given Sunday you might “Ruminate with the Rector”, “Analyze with the Associate Rector” or even “Dialogue with the Deacon”. Be sure to keep the 9:00 on Sunday mornings open and join in on these discussions.
Fr. Eric's Daily Tweets
These are the daily Tweets from Fr. Eric's 2010 daily Lenten discipline. He listened to "The Daily Message" every day, an audio version of the Bible broken up into daily segments so that you can listen to the whole Bible in one year. The translation is Eugene Peterson's "The Message." You can find the Message on http://www.biblegateway.com. The audio version is available on iTunes. After a break for Easter season, Fr. Eric is back at it and you can follow his current tweets on Twitter at http://twitter.com/revemw.
Beginning on Tuesday nights in October, St. Luke's will be offering "Discovering the Bible: A New Generation" as a year-long in-depth Bible Study. Fr. Eric will be leading this course and will be giving an introduction to the program and the course at the Adult Forum on Sunday, June 6 a 9:00 am. Be sure to attend to find out all about it!
For more information, read the article in the "Adult Formation" section.
Kerygma
Over the years, St. Luke’s has offered many opportunities for Bible Study. Having done all of our NCD surveys and talking with our parishioners it has been discerned that St. Luke’s is ready for some kind of more in-depth Bible study. An Adult Formation Task Force was assembled starting in February to look at Adult Formation in general for St. Luke’s –what are we doing; what’s working; and what do we need to eliminate and/or add. Knowing that a “serious” Bible Study was to be added, the Task Force looked at a couple of programs that are offered. After looking at these programs, The Kerygma Program was selected. What is the Kerygma Program? It is a program that offers 33 courses of study using different topics and formats. There are several foundational courses to allow study of the Bible as a whole and there are shorter courses which focus on a topic, theme, or a particular book in the Bible. Having chosen the program, the next step was to figure out who will lead the course, and which course would be offered.
Fr. Eric has stepped forward to dedicate time to this study for our next program year. The course that Fr. Eric has selected is one of the foundational courses, “Discovering the Bible”. This course is “A basic introduction to the Bible as a whole. Inviting adults into a new adventure of learning, the course explores biblical people, events, ideas and places through reading, reflection, discussion, creative expression and discovery.” This course has 30 (yes, 30!) sessions and will spread throughout the2010-2011 program year. The initial start-up date has not yet been decided, but the program will begin in October. There will be MUCH more information forthcoming, in the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask Fr. Eric or Barbara Bumsted.
